About me and this Substack

Hi there. As the Night Watchman of VA-5, I write posts that try to shine a light on Rep. John McGuire, who represents Virginia's 5th Congressional District in the House of Representatives.

I started this Substack with the idea that I’d fact-check his public statements, but since most of his public statements don’t contain many facts to check, most of what I do is try to bring facts and data into the conversation. I’m afraid that our democracy is sliding toward competitive autocracy, and I hope to do my part to slow the slide a little. Also, he’s my congressman, and he seems like kind of a nothingburger.
